First project under the Florence de Silva Memorial Trust to provide school essentials to needy children.
20 children from Pathiraja Vidyalaya in Galle District received shoes, bags and large number of Sinhala and English books for the school library. Funding request made through Prof. Achini de Silva, who coordinated the project throughout with the support from her family.
It was really encouraging to see the commitment from the school principal (who is decorating the preschool walls during school holidays) and staff to develop the school despite severe lack of funding. Three of the six buildings in the school have warnings on walls due to major strcutural faults.
APSL plans to expand this project to other areas to support the education of many more children.
