APSL concludes its Covid-19 emergency relief activities in Sri Lanka by providing assistance to 1650 families and 9 key Hospitals

APSL launched the Emergency Relief Fund on 25th March 2020 to support needy families and hospitals in Sri Lanka affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This week we completed the programme having provided Rs. 3.2 million worth of assistance to 1650 families and nine key Hospitals.
During 1st and 2nd phases of the programme, APSL helped 165 and 418 families respectively. In the 3rd phase, 1067 families received assistance in collaboration with Hela Sarana, a leading Sri Lankan Charity in the UK. Also, with funding from the Florence De Silva Memorial Fund, we distributed 120 special dry ration packs (worth of 2,000 Rupees including milk powder, Samaposha/ Threeposha and biscuits) focusing on families with young children during the 2nd and 3rd phases of the programme.
APSL also donated personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessary equipment to nine key hospitals in Sri Lanka to support their frontline efforts.
APSL supporters around Sri Lanka made a huge contribution to the programme despite many challenges by procuring and distributing dry rations to families and procuring and delivering PPE and other equipment to Hospitals. All volunteers followed Sri Lankan Government’s advice and guidelines on social distancing and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Special appreciation goes to Hela Sarana executive committee and members for collaborating with APSL for the dry ration distributions in Phase 3 and supporting the Hospital aid programme.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation goes to all the donors who donated via the Virgin Money Giving appeal and Facebook fundraiser campaign.
We would like to thank all our media partners including Sesatha UK website, Ceylon Mirror and Sri Lankans in the UK community Facebook groups for their continuous support throughout the programme.
Also, we would like to thank the APSL Executive Committee and the members for supporting the programme from the beginning.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the frontline key workers including the medical staff members, government officials, members of Tri-forces, Sri Lanka Police and Civil Security Forces for their indispensable contribution to the nation during this hour of need.
